English II: As a citizen of an increasingly global society, how do you connect on a personal level to the world literature that you have read in English II this year? What do you have in common with the characters from around the world and from different time periods?

English III: What insights have you gained about the American experience from English III? What have you learned about what it means to be an American? How does the literature you have read connect to events happening in the world today?

On a personal level, the world literature introduces me to different cultures and shows examples about how no one is exactly the same. The aspect that the characters and I share is the fact that we are different from each other. They have different ideas about the world, religion, and politics but we are still people sharing our cultures with each other.

English II-
I connect myself most with Gregor Samsa from the Metamorhosis. In the story, Gregor wakes up to find he has transformed into a buy but to a mental extent he is now free of all the pressure and obligations he had before his tranformation. This is where I truly understand Gregor because I along with many others often feel the pressure of taking care of a family, doing one's job, or trying to deal with different addversaries. So Gregor wasn't turned into a bug but released from his chains of obligation.

I find myself most connected to Dante in Dante's Inferno. Not necessarily on a journey through hell, but on a journey through life itself. There are people on the journey that have more experience than I and warn me about what's to come and mentors to guide me through life and its challenging moments.

On a personal level I have connected to the literature we have read in English II because the books show how different times used to be and in some cases how living in todays society is a fortunate thing. The characters from the stories are all different, and I am different from them all. I dont think i really have anything in common with them.

English 11- On a personal level, reading other authors' work from around the world showed me that although we are indeed all individual and our cultures different, we all show and share the same emotions. Like Gregor, from Metamorphasis, he felt unwanted and forgotten, he felt that people around him were digusted by him and wanted nothing to do with him. As a teenager in the United States, I go through some of those emotions as well. I feel the same things he does, even if his are because he is now a giant bug.

Personally I believe that the books we have read in English II all show parts of different countries' culture and history. Therefore we are able to learn and expand our ways of thinking through this. Like in 'All Quiet on the Western Front', we can all connect on how eventually most generations will have to go to war. On that note, I connect in a way that some of my family members were pulled into the mess that is war.

Eric
I Seem to connect to just about every character in some way or another in every piece of literature. There were a few I might not have really seen many connections but for the most part I found someone who I'm some way resembles me. I think it is cool that people from different time periods and places can have things in common.

On a personal level i've connected to the way that people use to live. How their cultures were, what they believed in, and their actions. I believe that i have the same emotional and mental feelings as some of the characters in the stories. Some characters were in love or searching for it, and some characters just wanted to find peace and happiness. Thats want as well.

I feel the most connected with the wooden people of the Mayan myth we read earlier in the year. The wooden people behave in a manner which angers their environment and their Gods without their knowledge. It is because of this ignorance that they are punished, much like the human race will soon be punished by the waste into which we reduce our planet. Personally, I like the part when the wooden people are attacked by their appliances. Reminds me of the time I burned myself while trying to fix a toaster.

Personally, i usually convert what is in a book into modern day situations in my mind. Or convert my life situations to what is happening in a book.
I truly related to Gregor in the Metamorphosis because he never was truly himself and always regretted what could've happened in the past; a could've, should've, would've guy.

I love reading literature from around the world. It shows many kinds of views and perspectives of society. In this class, I most related to Patria from In the Time of the Butterflies. While she has already found her way in life, she feels she is losing her faith in God, and this scares her. I've often felt this same way.

On a personal level, I connect with alot of the different characters that we have read about in English II. All of these stories came from many different places around the world, but I still always seem to have some kind of similarity to all of them. I can mostly relate to Dante from the Divine Comedy because, like he journeyed through Hell with his guide named Virgil, I am on a journey through life. I have to choose my mentor wisely so that they can help me make through the tough times in life. Also, I am doing this to work to my ultimate goal of doing all I can do and becoming all I can be, just like Dante was determined to witness God's grace in the Divine Comedy.

On a personal level, I find my self connected to many of the characters that we have read about in English II, despite the differences in their origin and time period. However, I find myself most connected to Dante from the Inferno. Just like Dante is on a journey through Hell with his guide, Virgil, I am on a journey through life and I must choose who I want to guide me through my hard times. Also, I have an ultimate goal to reach that has put me through these tough times, just like Dante. Dante was determined to witness God's grace, just as I am determined to do all that I can do and become the best person I can be.

Throughout my course in English II, we have encountered books and their characters from many timelines and genres. however, i believe that at the moment i relate in most to Paul from All Quiet on the Western Front because i at this time do not know what id like to do in life, as he felt the same after the war.

I connect with the literature that I have read, because of how the characters think, and how wars have connected us. War connections are not personal yet I understand how they feel, because in History class I learn alot on wars. On the personal level I feel the same urges and feelings that alot of the characters I read about had.

The connections that I can make with the characters in each story that we read in English II varies widely with every character. Some of the character's, such as those from Six Characters in Search of an Author, are more easily related towards, because they only know the present and the past. I, like them, know not of what is in store for my future or how my life will end. I only know how learn from the past and look to the future for better or worse.

On a personal level, I've enjoyed many pieces of litature this year, but i feel like i have connected most with Liesel Meminger from The Book Theif. The book itself takes place in nazi germany and even though i am fortunate enough to live during this time period and share those same experinces, i do believe that on liesels personal life i can relate to her. She has frieds int he neighborhood and she goes to school and learns to read from her papa. She loves to read and write and as she matures through life she realizes the beauty and the distress that comes from a written word. I too like her, enjoy reading and writing very much and i belive that is why i realte to Liesel.

i connect myself most with Dante fronm the inferno. He was going a long and tiresome journey through hell, which is the equivalent to life for me. I have to make it through this school year and strive to do my best, nomatter how hard it gets.

I connected with the books that we read in english II because in all the stories I find ways to connect with the characters. All the stories that we have read in this class have some kind of message that everyone can connect with. My favorite book that we have read in english II was In The Time of The Butterflies. In this book we learned a lot about where they were from and how things were in the world. I am very glad that i was given a chance to read these stories because I enjoyed pretty much all of them.

i feel most connected to dante in dante's inferno. He went through a long journey just to make it through hell, and he perservered. I am going through a journey of life. I have to strive to do my best in school in order to get good grades and succeed in school. At times, there seems to be a task that is almost imppossible, i.e. an english reading project. however, i am going to finish my project just like dante finished his journey

I love to see what people went through in history. The plays, and books from all around the world give us insight into history and culture. Wether it be from antigone staying with her father (back then a awful thing to think of, today it is awful not to) or the assasination of the marribal sisters ( a fight for freedom). Without this novels and plays and great acomplishments from litirature, we would not be able to look back on the past mistakes of life. For example, With Gilgimesh we learn to be content with what we have, and enjoy life why we have it. But I do think we can all share parts of us, with time periods of the past. Most of us have felt the fustration and the confusion of the director in "6 characters in search of an auther". But on the same note, few of us have experianced the despair and hardship as Monte Cristo. And all of us are on a path for life like Dante from Dante's inferno.

I feel that I could connect to many of the characters we read about ths year. However, I connected most with Elie Wiesel in his book Night. While my life hasn't been filled with crazed Nazis trying to run me out of my home, I have had to make some difficult decisions in my life. He was determined to remain loyal to his family, just as I am. We also share the same positive outlook on life.

Personally I feel that world literature is awesome because it gives us a chance to connect with different peoples and cultures. I connected with Dante's Inferno. This is because he is basically going through a tough time and just needs some help from a wise mentor. This is just like me and many other students. We are going through life and school and we must choose wise adults to be our mentors.

I feel that I, and most others, share a personal connection to the characters presented in our literature. Even if the characters are based in a different time period or a different area of the world they still represent a part of all of use. Each of them embody either just one trait or multiple traits of every human. Like Gregor and his alienation to society, Dante and his stuggle toward the rightous path, or even the folk tales that always have to do with love and the struggle between good and evil. All these stories show a different part of human nature that embodied within us all.
